Alignment on every level

When it comes to aligning your body, pilates and movement offer a roadmap. Not only do all the exercises in pilates support and encourage optimum strength but it also offers a chance to recalibrate. So often I hear my clients come into a class or private session feeling sluggish, tired, achy, and distracted. After our sessions they leave feeling lighter, and energized. Not only does their attitude and physical state change but there is clarity and a sense of renewed hope. It’s like hitting the refresh button on your computer after it’s been slowing down! After pilates, or any movement practice, there is a sense of clarity, alignment and peace.

How does this happen?

Through focused attention and movement your body gets the opportunity to reorient what is needed and what’s next. Through rigorous movement we gain respite from our day to day slumping and slouching. Let’s face it the majority of our days lend itself to routine sitting for extended periods and “doing” minimal movement.  Whether through work in an office environment, care giving, traveling,  eyes glued to smart phones, computer screens or televisions, passive engagement and sitting for extended periods is quite common. Your body gets stuck and stiff if you don’t stay active and mobile. Our bodies were built to move: walking, running, jumping, dancing, hiking, swimming and so much more… we need movement on every level to sustain us physically, emotionally, mentally and soulfully. Pilates and movement is one of the best ways to stay healthy. Find your own rhythm. Give yourself a window to move on a DAILY basis. This will indeed keep you feeling your best! Guaranteed. First you have to align yourself with that movement. Pilates just happens to be a great option for this. Dance is, too!

Something to consider

Align yourself by setting small goals to be more active. Rich rewards await you. Choose movement over sitting. In addition to pilates: there are moments when you can move instead of sit, e.g.: on your lunch hour, running errands, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Get creative – use these opportunities to get up and move. Remember movement is always an added bonus and your body will award you with longevity, vitality and health.
